Primary Function: To provide direct services to students in order to meet their medical, educational, and behavioral needs.
Reports to: Building Principal and School Nurse
Responsibilities:
- Supporting students in their day-to-day physical needs. This may include but is not limited to feeding, toileting, changing, dressing, assisting with physical management, or transporting.
- Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans for students and monitor progress.
- Provide support for identified students both inside and outside the classroom to enable them to participate in activities.
- Collaborate on the development of the student’s IHCP (Individualized Health Care Plan).
- Provide nursing care only for the student to whom they are assigned within the classroom.
- Provide nursing care based on the implementation of MD orders for medications and/or medical treatments.
- Provide nursing care for the student during the entire school day which may be modified as needed. Should the 1:1 Nurse require time away from the student, she/he must communicate directly with the building school nurse and classroom teacher to develop a safe plan in their absence.
- Document all nursing care provided to the student in an accurate and timely manner.
- Implement special strategies as required by the supervisor
- Maintain confidentiality of student information
- Implementing a student's behavior management plans and data collection.
- Providing small group or 1:1 instruction for students.
- Providing support during extracurricular activities as needed. (Unified Sports, Best Buddies, School Dances, etc.)
- Following a teacher-led schedule and directions
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues
- Meets regularly with classroom teachers to evaluate student progress.
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- An Associate’s (or higher) degree; OR
- Evidence of completion of 48 credit hours at an Institution of Higher Education; OR
- Evidence of completion of one of the formal Massachusetts-endorsed assessments:ParaPro or WorkKeys
- Licensed as a Licensed Practicing Nurse
204-day contract (prorated if the candidate's start date does not align with the start of the school year)
Starting pay of $32/hr with a sliding scale depending on past experience. |
